US Marshals and local law enforcement agencies arrested 24 individuals in the Portland, OR, metro area last week following an intense weeklong operation targeting the area's most violent criminals.

"Operation Safer Multnomah" targeted and arrested criminals that were wanted on a plethora of violent charges that include murder, attempted murder, armed robbery, and assaults, according to the US Marshals Service.

"The overall goal is to kind of flush out and make arrests that are [gun violence-related], people that have been in recent shootings, finding fentanyl, methamphetamine, and getting drugs off the street,” Deputy US Marshal Chris Tamayo told KATU2 News.

In a coordinated effort, the federal officers separated into three teams with the goal of serving 28 warrants after they obtained a list of suspects from the Portland Police Bureau, the Gresham Police Department, and the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office, according to the outlet.

The operation ended in 24 arrests and the recovery of 21 firearms, which included three ghost guns and nine that has been reported stolen, an agency spokesman said. Various drugs were also recovered during the operation.

Among those arrested include suspect Jimmy Pearce, who was charged in a 2017 homicide that occurred at the Xpose Club, and Alexander Barber, a suspect in the theft of more than 30 guns from a North Portland parking lot, KATU2 News reports.

"The goal is to hopefully get people to start realizing that we are out here. We are looking for you, and you can't kind of terrorize the community," Tamayo said.
