Last week we saw more US states reacting either strongly for or against the implementation of Coronavirus vaccine passports for their jurisdiction. Today we learned that New York state is moving forward with introducing them into daily life.
According to Fox 8 at least one New York county is mandating COVID vaccine passports before being allowed to Buffalo Bills games. The measure for both fans and staff was announced by Democrat Executive Mark Poloncarz of Erie County at a news conference today.
Poloncarz says he talked with Buffalo Bills team officials about the matter. “I want to see that stadium full. I know the Bills want to see that stadium full. We want to return fans back to the stadium. Our plan is that unless you are vaccinated you will not have entry to the stadium. It is easy. It is safe.”
The motive behind the decision is made clear: to remove the burden of having to mass testing for COVID on all incoming attendees. Poloncarz directs people to use New York State's “Excelsior Pass” app, which has a QR code that people coming to the venue can scan to be allowed in.
The situation surrounding COVID vaccines took an interesting turn recently. The pausing of Johnson & Johnson vaccines picked up attention in today’s news cycle after the FDA stepped in following reports of six women between ages 18 and 48 having developed blood clots. President Biden downplayed the impact this will have on rollout plans.
Worth noting that concerns over blood clots in rare cases not being limited to just the J&J version. A report out of Canada shows that the AstraZeneca vaccine potentially caused a clot for a Quebec woman. Leader Trudeau stands by how his country is rolling out the vaccination process. This is in spite of criticism from pundits over at CNN.
