VICE finds itself in controversy Thursday after publishing an article which states the US Marines have a "neo-Nazi problem." The article in question was promoted on VICE's social media, just hours after the deadly attacks in Kabul, which included US casualties.

The piece is written by Ben Makuch, who states, "While many vets are being outed as far-right extremists, one branch keeps popping up when it comes to neo-Nazis: the United States Marine Corps." VICE began trending on Twitter Thursday afternoon as the outlet faced a backlash for publishing the piece on the same day as the Pentagon confirms US casualties in the Kabul airport explosion.

Furthermore, VICE seemingly deleted their Tweet of the article where all the backlash appears to have taken place. Users were quick to point out the post had been deleted, but the article itself remains active on VICE's website.

VICE has made headlines multiple times today as the outlet is also laying off over a dozen writers. According to The New York Times, the outlet let go of their writers as VICE is pivoting fully to video and platforms like TikTok.

“As part of this continued global alignment,” an email from VICE to staff says, “we’ve unfortunately had to say goodbye to some of our friends and colleagues today. We wish them well and thank them for their dedicated service over the years.”
