In Gloucester County, Virginia, a sheriff’s deputy was caught on camera lifting a wrecked car off the driver’s head to save her in front of her young son.
Video released by the Gloucester County Sheriff's office Tuesday shows a deputy lifting a car to save a woman trapped underneath. The accident in question took place on May 7th, with no fatalities according to CBS News.
The deputy in question is Deputy J. Holt, who had previously received an award for bravery in 2020. The video has now gone viral with millions of views on social media.
On the evening of May 7, Deputy J. Holt responded to a motor vehicle collision with entrapment. When Holt arrived, he was confronted by a woman screaming, "She's stuck under the car."
When Holt reached the other side of the vehicle, he could see the driver, a middle-aged woman, with her head stuck through the sunroof and under the car. With the woman was her small child screaming "mommy! mommy!" and attempting to assist his mother.
Holt radios back a report of the situation, clears the child out of the car and then a grunt can be heard from Holt lifting the vehicle. Holt can then be heard asking, "Can you slide any, ma’am? Is your head clear?"
The police department said, "Through sheer will and determination due to fearing the female may succumb to her circumstance in front of her panic-stricken child, Deputy J. Holt took quick action and was able to physically lift the vehicle enough for the driver to maneuver her head out to safety."
According to the department, Deputy Holt had received the Top Cop Awards from the Greater Hampton Roads Regional Crime Line on February 2, 2021, for saving the lives of two people during a house fire in March 2020.
