The Washington Post's Susannah George on Monday told the media about her harrowing journey out of Afghanistan, mentioning that British troops helped her get to the Kabul airport.

George and her team, totalling 13 people, took advantage of a brief window to travel and get to the airport and get on an evacuation flight to Qatar.

According to the New York Post, George said in a video interview, "The only reason I was able to get to the airport with my team was that there was a large British evacuation going on … and also because I was with my team. I am an American passport holder."

"The danger of going to the airport is so incredibly high at the moment," mentioned George. An Afghan soldier has just been killed in a gunfight at the airport.

George added further details, mentioning how they only had a one-hour window to get to the airport, as the British soldiers had temporarily cleared the way for them. They got to the gate and had to talk their way in and arrange to get on a flight.

"The American soldiers guarding the gate were surprised to see cars on a street that was supposed to be closed to traffic. I held my press badge against the windshield, nodded to the guard tower and got out of the car, holding up my hands. After a quick exchange on his radio, he allowed us through," continued George.

Despite the confusion, all 13 team members were in the air flying to Qatar an hour after arriving at the airport.

Chaos continues to ensue around the Kabul airport as of the time of this writing.
