On Tuesday, the Washington Post issued a correction for its newsletter after the publication stated that 16-year-old Ralph Yarl was killed during a shooting earlier this month, when he was in fact injured.
"A previous version of this newsletter had an inaccurate headline for the second story. Ralph Yarl, the Black teen shot in Missouri, did not die. The newsletter has been corrected," the correction note for The Post Most read.
On April 13, Yarl went to pick up his siblings but arrived at the wrong address. Kansas City police were called to the address just before 10 pm, where they found Yarl with gunshot wounds to the head and arm.
84-year-old Andrew Lester told police that he had just gone to bed for the night when he heard his doorbell ring, according to a probable cause statement viewed by Fox News. He picked up his gun and went to the door, where he said he saw a black male pulling on his exterior door handle. Lester shot twice through the glass door, telling police that he thought his house was being broken into.
Yarl was released from the hospital on Sunday. On Thursday, Lester surrendered to the police and is currently in custody. Charges were filed against Lester on Monday for one count of armed assault and one count of armed criminal action.
The investigation into what led up to the shooting remains ongoing.
