Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Conservative Leader Andrew Scheer engaged in a heated exchange over the controversial WE Charity contract during a question period on Tuesday.

“Will the Prime Minister do the right thing, show up and testify at committee?” Scheer asked.

Trudeau responded by talking about the “unprecedented” coronavirus pandemic and all of the social supports and aid programs that were implemented by his government.

CTV News reports that Trudeau was questioned by the opposition in the House of Commons for his controversial family connections to WE Charity and the total of almost $300,000 that was paid to his mother and brother to speak at WE events over the past four years. He received a number of questions about his involvement in the decision to outsource the government grant program to WE.

Trudeau didn’t say whether he would show up and talk about his role in providing WE Charity with the contract.

“It’s so gross and disgusting that this prime minister keeps using the pandemic as an excuse for his corruption… I don’t even have a question Mr. Speaker, it is just disgusting,” said Scheer.

Trudeau responded by saying he thought “that there might be a question from the opposition on” updated coronavirus aid programs as that was the day's topic.

NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh and Bloc Quebecois Leader Yves-François Blachet continued to question Trudeau about his involvement in the sole-sourced WE Charity agreement.

Conservative MPs continued to ask specific cabinet ministers if they still supported the Prime Minister and Youth Minister Bardish Chagger gave a response every time.

Trudeau is set to face more questions about the controversy in the House of Commons on Wednesday.

Mario Dion, the Ethics Commissioner is looking into investigations into the Prime Minister and the Finance Minister to find out whether they are responsible for breaking conflict of interest laws by attending discussions about the WE Charity deal.
