Independent journalist Kalen D'Almeida of Scriberr News was attacked at a BLM and Antifa protest in Hollywood, Calif. on Thursday night.

Scriberr News reports that during a night covering Black Lives Matter protests, "Scriberr field reporter Kalen D'Almeida was attacked at approximately 10:30 pm on Highland Ave. between Hawthorne and Selma in Hollywood, California on April 15 while live-streaming and gathering footage for a Scriberr news package. He said his commentary was minimal."

Drew Hernandez reported that he was specifically targeted and assaulted, and that once D'Almeida had been knocked to the ground, an activist slapped him repeatedly, taunting him, saying "have you learned your lesson?"

D'Almeida has been covering civil unrest in the US throughout 2020, and has earned vitriol from Antifa and BLM activists who apparently don't like when their tactics and activities are exposed.

Scriberr reports that "Before D'Almeida’s coverage in Hollywood, he and Executive Editor Hailey Gomez covered a peaceful protest in Pasadena just a few hours prior, which will be released this week.

"Prior to the attack, his phone was stolen by two white male masked protesters dressed in Black-Bloc and thrown over a chained fence adjacent to D'Almeida. Without knowing the phone had been thrown, D’Almeida followed the protesters and asked for his phone back.

"At which point, someone in the crowd, one of his comrades, basically was like, 'hey, you know, watch out,' because they thought I was gonna go do something. And then all of a sudden the the mob started forming, they started calling me a Nazi and fascist and they claim that I spoke to someone that they didn't like," D'Almeida told Scriber News."

AntifaWatch reported that Antifa and BLM claimed the attack, and that they said the attack was on a "fash," or fascist streamer who was "undercover in bloc."

Hernandez reported that scores of police officers stood idly by while D'Almeida was attacked.

Hernandez opted not to share video, and reported that D'Almeida had gone to a hospital with fears of having sustained a concussion. But video did emerge from other sources.

AntifaWatch reported that the footage was deleted, but archived, and reposted. The clip shows D'Almeida on the ground, holding onto a fence, as people around him say "keep walking."

As he rises, one woman puts her hands on him, pushing him, saying "get out of here, this is your last chance. You're lucky.

Footage that may have been from the lead-up to the attack was shared as well. In it, voices can be heard on a megaphone shouting "Nazi go home," as others in the crowd pick up the chant.

D'Almeida can be seen being led down the sidewalk as people shout "Nazi f*ck off" at him, and "Get out of here you piece of sh*t." A man has his hand on D'Almeida's back as he pushes him away from the crowd.

About 13 seconds into the video, the man who is pushing D'Almeida away pushes him toward the fencing that lines the sidewalk. One person shouts "we saw you" while lunging at D'Almeida."

The crowd converges on him, while the camera pans away from D'Almeida, showing mostly feet as the crowd takes up the call and response: "who's streets / our streets."

Others say "keep moving." One person carries a New Yorker tote as a person on a megaphone shouts for "justice for George Floyd."

Andy Ngo reported that upon hearing of the assault, Antifa in LA celebrated.

This is not the first time D'Almeida has been targeted. As he covered protests in Washington, DC in November, he was called a "fascist propagandist," though he's a journalist.

Additional video from the protest shows LAPD, Antifa, and BLM in the streets.
