A third-party US House candidate from New York has turned heads with the release of his own sex tape in order to "demonstrate [his] commitment" to his "sex positive approach."
Mike Itkis, a Ukrainian-born US Army veteran, is expected to lose to long-time Democratic congressman Rep. Jerry Nadler in the race for New York's 12th Congressional District. His campaign platform available on his website is minimal – his only listed areas of focus are "Cyber Security," "Sex Positive Approach," and "Ending the war in Ukraine."
On sex positiviy, Itkis promises to "actively oppose the conservative idea that sex should only happen between a man and a woman who are married to each other," and to fully "decriminalize and legalize sex work."
Itkis, a registered Democrat who describes himself as "very liberal," enlisted the help of adult film star Nicole Sage to promote sex-positivity, reported the New York Post.
The two participated in a 13-minute-long sex tape, entitled "Bucket List Bonanza," which Itkis uploaded to Pornhub as a "conversation piece."
"If I would just talk about it, it wouldn't demonstrate my commitment to the issue," Itkis told City & State of his first time starring in a pornographic video. "And the fact I actually did it was a huge learning experience, and it actually influenced items on my platform."
"I'm very much an introvert," he continued. "I'm kind of a nerd who doesn't like to be the center of attention if I can avoid it. But I thought the issues I'm trying to address are so important."
Itkis welcomes the controversy. According to him, he doesn't march "in lockstep with the Democratic party."
"I wanted to have my issues talked about in some way," he added.
Many on social media seem to be just downright confused by the move, but one notable person in the race for New York's 12th district actually understands.
"You gotta do what you gotta do," Republican candidate Mike Zumbluskas said. "The media ignores everybody that's not a Democrat in the city."
