New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has been called on by New York lawmakers to be held accountability, to undergo congressional hearings, and to commit to a full investigation into his latest scandals. State Assemblyman Ron Kim, an early and vocal critic of Cuomo's handling of the coronavirus in nursing homes, is leading the charge.
Cuomo, who was lauded for his handling of the coronavirus pandemic last spring, is taking fire from all sides as he and his administration stands accused of covering up nursing home deaths and he is now alleged by a former aide of sexual misconduct.
Lindsay Boylan, who was Deputy Secretary for Economic Development and special adviser to Cuomo in 2018, wrote on Wednesday that there was unwanted touching and kissing from Cuomo. She also iterated in her statement that other female staffers "normalized" the incidents.
Boylan previously accused Gov. Cuomo of sexually inappropriate behavior on Dec. 13, but this is the first time she had given the details of what happened as she saw it. She had at first declined to do so.
Boylan stated also that inappropriate behavior by Cuomo "was all so normalized — particularly by Melissa DeRosa and other top women around him — that only now do I realize how insidious his abuse was." Boylan's report goes on to describe in detail incidents such as Cuomo suggesting a game of strip poker while on a plane flight in 2017.
Lawmakers are pushing to impeach the New York governor after New York State Assembly member Ron Kim revealed Cuomo’s intimidation tactics were used personally against him. Kim was an early critic of Cuomo's nursing home policies.
Kim came out publicly to say that Cuomo threatened him in front of his wife and kids after Kim's criticism intensified as a result of the New York State Attorney General's report showing that the Cuomo administration both undercounted nursing home deaths in the state by as much as 50 percent, and covered that up for political reasons.
