The decision by the Washington, DC medical examiner to not perform autopsies on the bodies of aborted babies that were turned into police last week hints towards illegal or gruesome abortion procedures, pro-life activist Lila Rose told Tucker Carlson last night.
Rose, who serves as the president of pro-life group Live Action, called the situation "devastating."
The five children whose remains are in the possession of the DC police and the DC medical examiners office, nearly all of them appear to be viable—one boy appears to be full term," said Rose. She went into some of the grizzly details, and then discussed how there would be no investigation held by authorities.
"One of the worst injustices would be if the medical examiner and D.C. government dispose or incinerate the bodies of these children before a full autopsy could be completed," Live Action spokesman Noah Brandt said in an interview with the Daily Wire on Monday.
"The abortionists do not want autopsies performed because they may indicate violations of federal law," he said. "DC must preserve these remains until a full, fair, and thorough investigation can be completed."
The remains were given by a whistleblower to a member of Progressive Anti-Abortion Uprising (PAAU). It was originally reported that the person with the remains was hoarding remains, and that it was only discovered after a "tip" to DC police. PAAU has refuted that, saying that the person requested that the remains be picked up for "forensic examination."
A statement to Daily Wire from the Metropolitan Police Department said that they "received a tip that led us to that location," noting that in "all circumstances, we do not disclose the identity of those who submit tips to the department."
The fetuses may indicate infanticide after attempted abortions. Live Action urged DC Police and the Department of Justice to take immediate action and complete a thorough investigation into these potential violations of federal law.
The bodies were recovered from the home of PAAU member Lauren Handy, who declined to speak to local news WUSA9 who were first on the scene, but told the outlet she expected the police to arrive "sooner or later" and said that "people would freak out when they heard" about the discovery.
Live Action also said that the babies were in packaging from Washington Surgi Clinic and transported to Curtis Bay Medical Waste Services, a management service in Baltimore, Maryland. Photos were taken of the aborted babies, and they claim that the bodies "indicate potential criminal activity" at the local abortionist facility in the late term.
A statement from Live Action says that some of the babies could have survived outside of the womb.
"Though officials said that they do not plan to perform autopsies on the babies, The Washington Post reported, two D.C. officials told the publication that this decision could "change if they receive additional information'," Daily Wire reports.
Specific details of what was done to each baby are graphic. The so-called "Baby Girl 1" was in the late 2nd or early 3rd trimester, said Kathi Aultman, a retired Board-Certified OB/Gyn and an Associate Scholar, who reviewed the photos.
WARNING: Graphic details below
Baby Boy 1 was in the third trimester, near term, and was likely dead when he was aborted or was not well preserved.
Baby Girl 2 appears to be in the second trimester. "She has been dismembered," Aultman said. "Her head has been crushed or possibly decompressed using suction inserted through an incision in the skull. Her skin is macerated, and her tissues appear grey, consistent with death prior to the abortion. She appears completely normal and was aborted using the [dilation and evacuation] technique, also known as dismemberment abortion," she said.
Another fetus, titled Baby X, has not had its gender determined due to the baby being still intact in the amniotic sac, according to Aultman. She said that Baby X may have been born alive and left to die in the sac.
"An Induction method would have been used for the abortion," said Aultman. "Unless this baby was injected with a drug designed to kill prior to the abortion, he or she may very well have been born alive and then left to die. Without rupturing the amniotic sac, it would not have been possible to cut the cord to cause fetal death before the abortion."
"It is important to note that all of these babies appear to be of a 'viable' gestational age," said Kolb, "which means that had they been delivered alive at their current developmental stage, they would have had a very good chance of survival outside of the womb with appropriate support."
"It is also important to note that these babies are pain capable at this point in development, and especially those whose lives were ended by a [dilation and evacuation] abortion would be expected to experience excruciating pain during this barbaric procedure."
