Florida Republican Governor Ron DeSantis tore into reporters Tuesday for their one sided coverage of the Hunter Biden laptop scandal before the election, specifically how Big Tech censored the story's distribution on their platforms.
A reporter questioned DeSantis on claims that Big Tech was censoring conservative speech, "A lot of the deplatforming seems to be driven by somebody who did something that provoked the platform." DeSantis rebuked the reporter's notion that the political censorship occurring on Big Tech platforms is justified.
"You’re trying to tell me if there was hacked information that could damage me you guys wouldn’t print it? Give me a break. You can whiz on my leg, but don’t tell me it’s raining," a fired up DeSantis told reporters.
DeSantis was speaking of the recovered Hunter Biden laptop who's discovery and contents was published by the New York Post ahead of the 2020 November election. The story was censored on Twitter and Facebook due to claims that the information was "hacked" from the computer and thus not eligible for circulation on their platforms.
DeSantis explained that Big Tech platforms "changed from neutral platforms to enforcers of preferred narratives." He added that the issue of Big Tech censorship may be "one of the most pervasive threats to American self-government in the 21st century," adding that "Big Tech looks more like Big Brother every year."
Following the Storming of the Capitol event last month, Big Tech companies have cracked down on conservative political speech on their platforms like never before, resulting in countless bans and suspensions as well as an exodus from the platforms by disgruntled conservatives who no longer want to have their speech stifled or mitigated.
