WATCH: Jack Posobiec discusses the way forward for American conservatives

Jack Posobiec of OAN spoke to Look Ahead America's Matt Brainard about how conservatives need to move more to the center, and must embrace economic populism. While much of the conversation at CPAC centered around what conservatives think is wrong with liberalism, Posobiec primarily tackled the problem of what's wrong with conservatives.

"Can Republicans move more to the center on economics? I think they can," he said, "because here's the dirty little secret: Republicans can move to the center on economics, but the left cannot move to the center on anything," he told Brainard.

"If you want to build a political coalition, I'm telling you, if you want to build a political coalition, that is how you do it. You go to the center, you get the people who are sick of the extremes, and you get the people who are sick of the partisanship, and the people who are against cancel culture—Cancel culture will not stop if we just complain about it and we're just complaining about double standards all the time… they're coming at you. Cancel them back. Cancel them back."

"That's the only way it's ever gonna stop," he said, to audience applause.

Posobiec offered the concept that instead of constantly criticizing the opposition, instead of perpetually calling out the hypocrisy of leftist leaders who, for example, advocate for lockdowns then break their own rules, conservatives need to start presenting alternatives.

"Why aren't the Republicans having any answers on these stimulus checks?" He asked, noting that while the Democrats keep proposing—and passing—spending bills, the Republicans do little more than say "no."

"Where's your bill?" He asked. Republicans, he said, aren't proposing anything, they are simply in a constant state of reacting to what Democrats do, often fruitlessly.

"You have to start embracing people first policies." And one of the areas he sees this as most necessary is in the economy. "The Republicans are going to have to let go of their laissez faire ideals."

Posobiec sees an opportunity for the right to move closer to the center in terms of stimulus checks and federal spending, but they don't have to take the Democrats lead on how and where that money should be allocated.

It's more important to Posobiec and the new right that American freedoms are upheld, that the Bill of Rights is the center of the conservative movement, and that those values take primacy over the long-standing GOP under McConnell and others in leadership toward abstemiousness.

"Cancel culture will not stop if we just complain about it" he said the call outs on double standards aren’t going to stop, and you need to cancel them back.

Social media, he said, is a "key tool," noting that people are able to "post data directly on Twitter and social platforms so that people can see what's happening for themselves." This kind of direct action is "why they're trying to shut down social media."

"They're shutting down the ability for patriots, the ability for people to communicate, to have those conversations, and to provide information—this is clear—to provide information that may be seen as troublesome to the establishment narrative, to be able to go to the actual data, to provide the information that says 'wait a minute, this is different from what your data actually says. What's going on here, can we show your work?' No, they can't show their work.

"That's why they're trying to shut it down because if you can shut down that critical node, in the Navy we would have called it a strategic choke point. If you can shut down that strategic choke point or strategic lines of communication, then you've already won. You've won the battle, you've cut the supply lines.

"That is why they're trying to shut down social media, that is why it's so amazing to see people using new social media that's rising up, that's coming up, but I do also believe—and this is me, I'm just gonna say it—this isn't about conservatives, this isn't about liberals, this is a civil right. This is a civil rights issue. You have a right in the United States of America to freedom of speech. Period.

"And as a movement we need to start looking at it that way. If there needs to be a legislative change to make that happen, so be it, because last time I checked we have governments to secure our rights which were given to us by God."
