New Democrat leader Jagmeet Singh told media on Tuesday that his party has zero intent on forming a coalition government with the Trudeau Liberals.

The question came after Conservative leader Erin O'Toole denounced the reported talk between Singh and Prime Minister Trudeau on Monday.

Trudeau’s “first order of business is to let his new Liberal MPs know that they will have to accept a radical Liberal-NDP coalition agreement,” O’Toole said on Monday.

“This coalition will mean billions of dollars of new spending to buy just (NDP Leader) Jagmeet Singh’s silence,” he said, saying that a coalition would harm energy workers.

Talks between the NDP and Liberals were first reported by Maclean's, with veteran NDP MP Charlie Angus telling the Globe and Mail that Trudeau reached out to Singh sometime last month.

"There is no discussion at all of a coalition, and that is a firm no from me. There is not going to be any coalition at all," said Singh on Monday, dismissing the reports.

"I am prepared to find ways to work together," said Singh. "I want to make sure this Parliament works for people. I want to respect the decisions that Canadians made in this election," said Singh.

"... When it comes to helping people, I'm ready to work together," said Singh, citing things like cost of living, and fighting against climate change.
