White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki refused to deny during her press conference on Tuesday that President Joe Biden would support forcing doctors to perform abortions in spite of religious objections.

During the press conference, Psaki was asked by a reporter whether the Equality Act currently being pushed by Democrats would "force doctors to perform abortions even if it violates their conscience... What does President Biden say about those concerns?

The reporter referred to the phrase "pregnancy discrimination" in the act, suggesting that this may remove religious exemptions to performing and recommending abortions.

Psaki dodged the question, telling the reporter that Biden is a supporter of the Roe v. Wade ruling which legalized abortion in the United States.

When asked again, Psaki said that the reporter would have to consult "future Secretary Becerra once he is confirmed." Xavier Becerra is Biden's nominee for Secretary of Health and Human Services.

Psaki was also asked whether doctors would be forced to perform sex reassignment surgeries even if it violates their conscience to do so, a question which Psaki ignored entirely.
