Actor Johnny Depp described to a court the physical and mental abuse he allegedly experienced at the hands of his ex-wife Amber Heard. Depp resumed his testimony on Wednesday, on what was the second day of hearings in his defamation case against Heard.

Depp discussed an incident in which Heard had thrown a bottle of vodka at him, lacerating his finger. Depp described how the incident transpired.

Depp said that he first went to the house of his security guard, saying: "We went to Malcolm [Connolly's] apartment where he was staying while we were shooting the film, and tried to clean my hand because I had worked the day before, and obviously when you're playing a pirate, Captain Jack, or whatever, they paint, and with rubbing alcohol, they paint dirt all into your hands and into your face and everything."

"So, they were worried about getting my finger cleaned," he continued, "so we tried to do that at Malcolm's and said we got to get to an ER and got to get hold of the tip of his finger. So we went to the emergency room, the doctor asked me what happened, and I lied to him. I said that I had smashed it in these large accordion doors, that it got caught in accordion doors."

Depp said that he only told the doctor that the cut had been due to glass.

When asked why he would lie about that, Depp said "I want to disclose that it was, what it was... that it had been Mrs. Heard that had thrown a vodka bottle at me and then took my finger off. I didn't want to get her in trouble... I did not want to put her name in that mix."

Depp also described moments where Heard was mentally abusive to him, including a time where he was trying kick opioid habit.

That was, I believe that was about the lowest point in my life," said Depp. "I was the lowest I've ever felt, as a human being. Because I had to say please—'please may I have meds. Because it's really kicking in' and she was adamant. 'Nope, it's not time, it's not time.'"
