Prime Minister Justin Trudeau wished Canadians a happy Easter from outside Rideau cottage this morning.
The prime minister is taking today and tomorrow off, after more than three weeks of addressing the nation daily for COVID-19 updates. Trudeau said he would be spending time with his wife and children.
Happy Easter! This is a time for joy, for hope, and - normally - for coming together. So while we may have to get creative and celebrate differently this year, Easter’s themes of love, forgiveness, and renewal are more relevant than ever. https://t.co/zDO6WHDJaU pic.twitter.com/DpEgPwz9IX

"Normally, we'd be going to church with out neighbours, searching for Easter eggs with the kids, or sharing a special meal with family and friends," said Trudeau, acknowledging that this Easter would be much different than others due to social distancing rules that the government has put in place. "But we have to do it, for the safety of all Canadians."
Conservative Party Leader Andrew Scheer also posted to Twitter, saying: "Today Christians across Canada and around the world are celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ and His victory over death. On behalf of Canada’s Conservatives, I wish everyone celebrating at home this year a joyful and blessed Easter."
