Watch: Levar Burton says cancel culture is a 'good sign'

In an appearance on The View, Levar Burton supported the discontinuation of some Dr. Seuss books and called cancel culture 'consequence culture'.

When Meghan McCain asked the long time host of a children's educational program Reading Rainbow how he felt about Dr. Seuss's books being taken off the shelf, Burton seemed excited that "consequences are finally encompassing everybody" and supported the censorship of "controversial art and artist."

Burton claimed that some people "haven't been ever" subject to consequences compared to those he called "othered since this nation began." He called people who have been the victim of cancel culture "unaware of the real nature of life in this country" for marginalized groups.

Burton said that cancel culture is "miss named, {cancel culture} is a misnomer, I think we have a consequence culture." Others in the liberal media have jumped on the term "consequence culture" including Brian Stelter of CNN while they cheer on the cancelling of those who they disagree with.

Burton is well know for hosting the children's program Reading Rainbow which encouraged young children to become interesting in reading. Burton also starred as Kunta Kinte in ABC's Roots miniseries and appeared in Star Trek: The Next Generation.

Burton was on the view to discuss the recent announcement that he will be one of the guest hosts of Jeopardy this summer. Jeopardy has featured a slew of guest hosts since the passing of Order of Canada recipient and long time host Alex Trebek.

Burton said on the view that he is "campaigning" for the full-time hosting gig. An online petition with more than 250,000 signatures is credited with making him a major contender for the job. Jeopardy has not revealed anything as to who might be the permanent replacement for Trebek.
