Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi faced questions surrounding the age of her party's leaders in an interview with "60 Minutes" on Sunday, leaving Pelosi irritated when the subject of Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez came up.
Her interviewer, Leslie Stahl, brought up the issue of age, noting that the top three House Democrats are all 80 years old or older. When Stahl asked for more young people have not been brought into the leadership, Pelosi insisted that they have, and Stahl is not paying close enough attention.
"Because we have, you perhaps don't know," Pelosi said.
"Why does [Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez] complain that you have not been grooming younger people for leadership?" Stahl asked Pelosi.
"I don't know, you'll have to ask her. Because we are," Pelosi said sharply. Noticing the tone, Stahl asked if Pelosi was being dismissive of the young firebrand Congresswoman.
"I'm not dismissing her, I respect her. I think she's very effective as are many other members of our caucus that the press doesn't pay attention to," Pelosi told Stahl. "But they are there, and they are building support for what comes next."
