Conservative Finance Critic Pierre Poilievre butted heads with Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland on Monday, after pressing the Liberals on if there was a housing bubble in Canada.
"Since [Minister Freeland] took the job, prices are up 20 percent, since this government took office they're up 58 percent, nearly $300,000."
Freeland criticized the Conservatives and Poilievre specifically for spreading misinformation and for making untrue statements.
Poilievre responded that "the member loves to quote the liberal state-funded media to defend herself. Let's do that," he said. "Let me quote the Globe and Mail: Liberal government is asking parliament to approve billions in new spending during a brief four hour sitting in Ottawa, but is facing questions because it has not released full accounting of how it spent 600 billion dollars last year."
Freeland said that the Conservatives' "truth problem" may start with O'Toole, quoting figures that O'Toole stated at a press conference regarding Canada's growth and unemployment rate.
"She loves to quote media commentators," Poilievre responded. "One of the articles she quoted earlier actually talked about how she put manipulated media onto Twitter, making history as the first minister in Canadian history to be sanctioned by social media companies for misinformation online."
In August, Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland faced an investigation over a social media that was labelled by Twitter as manipulated media. The Canada Elections Act prohibits any person from knowingly making a false statement to influence voters.
According to the National Post, the Conservative Party moved forward with asking Elections Canada, via lawyer letters, to force the Liberals to remove the manipulated video.
Freeland posted a deceptively edited interview clip of Conservative leader Erin O’Toole that Twitter called a case of video manipulation.
