WATCH: Rabid bobcat attacks North Carolina woman

A woman in North Carolina was attacked by a rabid bobcat in her driveway before her husband came by to defend her. Jessica O'Donnell posted the video, with the caption "sometimes you gotta yeet a bobcat."

The incident, which was caught on video, took place in Pender County, which includes much of the coastal city of Wilmington's suburbs.

As the husband opens his car door, his wife could be heard screaming from the other side of the vehicle. The video shows a bobcat latching on to her back and she pleads to her husband for help.

The husband grabbed the bobcat off his wife's back and threw it onto his lawn. He then warned bystanders to take cover as he went to go get his gun.

While it is unclear if the man actually shot the cat, authorities have stated that the cat is now dead. They also confirmed that it was infected with rabies.

Rabies is highly lethal and humans who come in contact with rabid animals are required to receive a rabies shot, which is known to be rather painful. Rabies shots can be taken within 10 days of exposure to the disease, but once symptoms begin to show, death is almost guaranteed. Only 14 humans are recorded to have survived rabies after symptoms arose.

Once common among dogs, extensive vaccination efforts have substantially lowered the risk among canines. In modern times, the most common source of rabies for humans in the United States is from bats, foxes, skunks, and raccoons.
