Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) got up and left a Senate committee hearing after slamming Democrats for supporting nominees who seek to "abolish the police.”
Cruz stormed out after confronting Democratic Committee Chairman Blumenthal over Biden administration nominees who push to "abolish the police." Later, Sen. Cruz made a powerful speech during a Senate Committee hearing this week where he echoed his previous sentiment that HR1 is "the single most dangerous piece of legislation before Congress.”
Cruz asked Blumenthal, "If you don't support abolishing the police, why do you keep voting for nominees who advocate abolishing the police?" Blumenthal responded to Cruz by saying Cruz committed a "complete distortion of their views" and decided to move on with the hearing. Cruz then got up and left the hearing altogether as Sen. Dianne Feinstein gave Cruz a tongue lashing.
Earlier in a hearing about House Resolution 1, also known as the For The People Act, Cruz slammed the resolution as the "most radical" and "dangerous" bill he's ever seen. The bill sponsored by Democrats calls for sweeping reforms into campaign financing, voters’ rights, gerrymandering, and ethics for federal officials.
Cruz said about the bill, "It is about ensuring that Democrats remain in power and control for the next 100 years. It is a radical bill. What does it do? It federalizes all elections. It strikes down every election reform protection at the state level." Cruz continued, "It sets up automatic voter registration, which would result in millions of illegal immigrants, and criminals, and felons being able to vote. The Democrats believe if illegal immigrants and felons are voting, that benefits the Democrats and keeps them in power."
This week, Cruz attacked Democrats for implementing Jim Crow laws of the 20th century which he said: "kept Democrats in power." Cruz called HR1 "Jim Crow 2.0." Although the Democrats have introduced the bill, it is nearly certain that it will go nowhere unless the Democrats can band together and end the filibuster, requiring 3/5 of Senators to vote to end debate.
"This legislation will ensure the Democrats will never lose another election." Cruz said in his speech, "31 states prohibit ballot harvesting; why? Because it is a corrupt practice where paid operatives handle the ballots of someone else, and it has repeatedly led to instances of stealing votes."
