Dr. Theresa Tam, Canada's Chief Public Health Officer, appeared on CTV News on Sunday, during which she said that those who have already vaccinated still need to wear a mask and social distance.

Noting that nearly 600,000 Canadians are now fully vaccinated against coronavirus, Question Period host Evan Solomon asked Tam if those who have received both doses of the vaccine may return to their lives as normal before the pandemic struck.

"Well for now, keep up with those precautions because there's two reasons," Tam said. "One is that if you got vaccinated, it's never 100 percent, so keeping up with some of these personal protective layers is still important.

"Can you transmit to someone else if you're still vaccinated? That we don't know yet," Tam continued, "but there's more and more data that shows that it's quite likely that those who are vaccinated are less likely to transmit.

"But that data is forthcoming, so just hang on tight for a bit," she finished.

Tam's answer raises questions about when life will return to normal in Canada. While many public health experts have argued that some form of vaccine-induced herd immunity may be necessary in order for life to return to normal, such efforts have been hindered by a slow rollout process.
