"If we get the Johnson and Johnson or AstraZeneca approved in January when their data comes in, we'll have significant additional supply," Azar said.

Secretary Alex Azar of the US Department of Health and Human Services suggested in an interview with the Today Show on Monday morning that Americans will have widespread access to the coronavirus vaccine "by late February, going into March."

When asked when the coronavirus vaccine will be available for the general population, Azar responded "I think we can be seeing that by late February, going into March."

"If we get the Johnson and Johnson or AstraZeneca approved in January when their data comes in, we'll have significant additional supply," Azar said.

"Again, late-February, in the March time period, I think you'll start seeing like a flu vaccination campaign," Azar suggested to an excited reporter.

The coronavirus vaccine from Pfizer BioNTech was approved by the FDA on Saturday after months of trials. The process had been significantly sped up by regulators seeking to bring a rapid end to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

The vaccine has already begun rollout in the United Kingdom, where a 90-year-old grandmother became the first person in the world to be given the vaccine on Tuesday. She reported "feeling great" after being discharged from the hospital.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, more than 16 million Americans have tested positive for coronavirus and over 300,000 have died.
