WATCH: Tucker Carlson says Chris Cuomo 'may be an idiot' but he was right to help his brother

On Tuesday night, Tucker Carlson addressed CNN's indefinite suspension of anchor Chris Cuomo during his opening monologue on his primetime Fox News show. "For us here at Fox, it felt like the end of something. Like most Americans, we never actually watched The Chris Cuomo Show..." He began.

On Monday, New York Attorney General Letitia James released thousands of pages of new evidence that the CNN host was "actively in touch" with his brother’s top aide Melissa DeRosa, and gave her full statements to be used by then-Governor Andrew Cuomo, as well as leads into his accusers of sexual harassment. Multiple women had accused the former Governor of sexual misconduct. James also investigated Cuomo's handling of nursing homes during the early part of the pandemic in 2020.

Chris Cuomo was revealed to have asked to be involved with the preparations in his brother's sexual harassment case and made efforts to track down pending articles from news outlets that were about the allegations against Andrew Cuomo, who eventually resigned.

Carlson said, "How, we wondered, did a man who could barely speak English wind up with a paying job on television?" he said. "Was this some kind of weird affirmative action program for the illiterate?"

After showing various cringe inducing clips of the former CNN anchor working out Carlson proclaimed, "Chris Cuomo was a buffoon."

He went on to allege that CNN doesn’t punish its on-air talent for spreading fake news, but that the network will not tolerate offending the elite class in the US.

"The only thing you can’t do at CNN, and the thing they will never tolerate is displeasing the people in charge. That means not simply Jeff Zucker who runs the company, but the billionaires who run our country. If you cross them, you are done. So this morning when we saw The Atlantic magazine, we knew it was curtains for Chris Cuomo."

Carlson continued, "Your first obligation is not to the state, it’s not a political party, or to your career, it’s to your family. Cuomo may be an idiot but he understands that."

"Helping his brother is not the worst thing he ever did," Carlson continued. "In fact, it may have been the best thing he ever did. Not because Andrew Cuomo was a good person. He certainly wasn’t a good person. Andrew Cuomo was loathsome. But Andrew Cuomo was Chris Cuomo’s brother and that’s what you do with brothers, even the loathsome ones. You help them when they need it. Period."

Carlson accused the other hosts on CNN and other leftwing networks of likely not being willing to help family members. "Above all these people are 'careerists,' ruthless careerists. They will betray anyone to get ahead."  

Carlson concluded by backhandedly complimenting the former CNN host. "Your most basic obligation is to the people you are related to. When they need your help, no matter who they are even, if you’re the governor of a state, even if they’re horrible people, you help them anyway because it’s your family. Chris Cuomo may be an idiot, and he is, but he understands that."
