According to Blacklock's, MPs got together yesterday to jointly threaten the founders of WE Charity with legal action in the form of subpoenas. This was because they insisted that they only had an hour to attend to the Commons Finance Committee’s questions on their alleged ties to the Cabinet.

The Finance Committee shot back, saying that if they can’t spare at least four hours, they will initiate due process and the two brothers who co-founded WE Charity, Craig and Marc Kielburger, will be issued a summons.

A plethora of irregularities have surfaced in recent days regarding ties the WE Charity have to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, with many cabinet members and others close to him having links to the charity. The Finance Committee, and indeed the general public at this point, are wanting clear answers as to what exactly has been going on.

Trudeau and his Chief of Staff are scheduled to testify before the Committee this coming Thursday. There may be up to $43.5 million just on one item of potentially suspicious expenses involving WE Charity to look into. This is in addition to various other items arousing concern and suspicion due to their dubious nature.

Conservative Shadow Finance Minister Pierre Poilievre also raised his voice questioning the fact that “we already have a Canada Summer Jobs Program”, and wants to get to the bottom of why it was necessary to duplicate infrastructure that was already fully present, funded and ready to go.

Liberal MPs in turn expressed concern about the need to potentially use legal action against the Kielburger brothers, as they feel it has the potential to derail the investigation, for whatever reason. However, the NDP House Leader Peter Julian has expressed himself as being on board with the multiple investigations taking place, saying that “there are tons of unanswered questions”.

The Finance Committee also just passed a motion compelling all witnesses to make available everything they have in writing regarding WE, the Kielburger brothers, and anything else related to the scandal since March 1.
