The White House stated on Wednesday that OPEC's decision to slash oil production indicates that the oil consortium is "aligning with Russia." White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre made the statement to reporters aboard Air Force 1 as the president makes his way to survey hurricane damage in Florida.
"Look," she said, "it's clear that OPEC Plus is aligning with Russia with today's announcement, and I'll leave it, I'll leave it as that, as I just laid out. You know we're dealing with a time, where we're, we are you know, the global markets are, the global economy is responding to Putin's war. And so, by making this decision, it is going to have an effect on low and middle, middle economic, economic, income countries. And so that is that's where we are today."
Jean-Pierre was asked about the trustworthiness of Saudi Arabia as regards US interests, as well as if the OPEC production cut helps Russia's President Vladimir Putin, since Russia is also a global oil producer.
Jean-Pierre referenced a statement given by the administration, saying that gas prices are down, and that the President will continue releasing millions of barrels of oil from the US Strategic Petroleum Reserve, per his directive to release 180 million barrels in March. The White House is reportedly asking for an increase in domestic oil production, and to decrease prices.
The oil reserves are being drastically depleted under the current administration.
This announcement from OPEC, Jean-Pierre said, shows why the administration wants to move away from fossil fuels and force Americans to rely on an energy infrastructure centered on wind and solar energy, even though there is not enough energy in those sectors to power the US economy.
"Today's announcement is a reminder of why it is so critical that the United States reduce its reliance on foreign sources of some fossil fuels with the inflation Reduction Act," Jean-Pierre said. "We are making a historic investment in accelerating the energy, the energy to be the transition to clean energy as it relates to Russia."
