An additional 20 cases of coronavirus have been confirmed by the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit as of Monday, bringing Windsor's total number of cases to 204. There have been 16 local recoveries and three deaths, according to the Windsorite.

The Health Unit reported that the city has tested 1,534 people with 148 tests still awaiting results.

Dr. Wajid Ahmed, the Windsor-Essex Medical Officer of Health, noted that the significant rise in positive cases came as a result of testing delays in Ontario. Current tests are providing results in 24 to 48 hours.

Long term care facilities in the area are dealing with six current outbreaks and more information is expected to be released by the Health Unit on Monday afternoon.

“Managing these outbreaks is a priority for the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit,” Dr. Ahmed said.

The Health Unit is now advising concerned citizens to call if they believe individuals or businesses are violating provincial orders.

According to CEO Theresa Marenette, fines of up to $5,000 a day can be given to businesses that do not comply.

The Health Unit also noted that non-essential businesses and groups of more than five people should be reported to either 311 or the closest municipal bylaw office.

Reports of people who are not following self-isolation/quarantine orders after travel should be sent to the OPP or Windsor police’s non-emergency lines, according to the Health Unit.
