Ever wanted to get out of work so bad that you faked having a virus in the middle of a global pandemic? One McDonald's employee did just that. However it didn't end so well according to Hamilton Police.

On March 19, 2020, an 18-year-old female employee of the burger chain decided to forge a doctor's note with fraudulent medical information that said she had tested positive for COVID-19.

It was supposed to be a little white lie to get a couple days off work, however it resulted in the entire restaurant being shut down.

The McDonald's location is on Rymal Road in Hamilton, Ontario and staff there were forced to take immediate action to protect the safety of its employees and consumers. The restaurant was promptly shut down and all employees were sent home and ordered to self-isolate.

The location was closed for several days while professional cleaning services were brought in to sanitize the store top to bottom.

The stunt resulted in hysteria among employees and eventually police involvement on March 23, 2020. Hamilton Police received information from Hamilton Public Health Services about the individual and she has since been charged with fraud and mischief.

She faces the following:

  • Mischief Over $5000
  • Fraud Under $5000
  • Use a Forged Document
  • Make Forged Document

The woman has been released and is expected to appear in court on May 18, 2020.

That must have been some hangover.
