A 52-year-old woman from Mexico has been charged after she lied about being kidnapped and raped in order to gain US citizenship.

Alma Duran, who is an illegal immigrant, said back in March that a masked man kidnapped her, dragging her into his vehicle where she was then raped and forced to drink an unknown liquid, Daily Wire reports.

A driver then found Duran naked on the side of the road. She proceeded to file a police report, however when police searched through her phone records, her story fell apart.

Duran admitted that she was not kidnapped, but insisted was raped by the man she was dating. She was then charged with filing a false police report. Currently, she is being held on a $1000 bond.

According to police, Duran lied in order to get a "U visa," which "allows victims of certain crimes who assist police to remain and work temporarily in the US and seek permanent status." However, law enforcement must certify that the crime took place before such Visa is granted.

According to the Daily Wire, this is not the first time that a woman has claimed to be raped in order to gain US citizenship. The outlet had previously reported on other similar cases.
