For anyone who may be unclear, the only people defined under the second definition are actually men. In other words, the definition of "woman" now contains its opposite, making the word itself absolutely meaningless. By redefining women as a wish, a feeling, a manifestation of mind, women are erased entirely. Women do not exist if they cannot be defined. If women cannot say what they are, they cannot express who they are. If men claim women's bodies, women's spaces, and women's language, then women and women's issues are no longer able to be discussed honestly.
This latest definition, as Christopher Rufo points out, is a recent addition. And as Charlie Kirk notes, this latest definition means that "A woman is someone who says they are a woman which is a word we cannot define so we define it by using the term in the defintion." The definition of man has been similarly changed.
Merriam Webster already made their changes to appease trans activists. Once defined as "adult human female," the term now has a lengthy definition, including "having a gender identity that is the opposite of male." Many women, however, do not feel that they have a gender identity, instead knowing that they have a biological sex. We used to know what the word "woman" meant, we knew what women were. We knew women were the female of the human species, capable of bearing young, with bodies made for birthing and nurturing. We knew that men and women are different, not better, not worse, just different, made for separate biological functions, whether those functions are realized in a person's life or not.
Drilling down into the definitions of female, which per the Cambridge Dictionary, is "belonging or relating to women," and sex, reveals a thoroughly nonsensical definition of the word.
"Woman" now means an "adult belonging or relating to women human being," or, for the males who Cambridge Dictionary defines as women, "an adult who lives and identifies as belonging or relating to women though they may have been said to have a different physical state of being either male, female, or intersex: at birth."
The only people who want to remake "woman" to include males who present themselves according to stereotypical representations of women are the males who wish their costume to be legitimized in language, law and practice, and those women who have been so cowed by the males in the LGBTQ+ movement as to believe that women are nothing but a fiction.
In short, the Cambridge Dictionary is taking lies and claiming they are truths, and encouraging other users of the English language to lie, as well. A language founded on lies cannot be used to express the nature of reality, and with this alteration designed to appease wilful liars, the Cambridge Dictionary is no longer an arbiter of definitions in the English language.
