American president banned by Facebook while CCP allowed to spew lies on social media

After vowing to ban former President Donald Trump for two years, Facebook is allowing the Chinese Communist Party's state-run propaganda on Tiananmen Square and human rights abuses to exist on its social media platform.

Facebook is expected to announce Friday the reversal of its policy, for the integrity of democracy and political discourse, that allows political leaders to be exempt from hate speech policies on the site and considers such statements newsworthy.

The Big Tech company declared Friday that Trump will be banned from Facebook and Instagram for two years. Last month, the company's Oversight Board upheld Facebook's suspension of Trump following the Capitol Hill riot on Jan. 6.

Facebook said it questioned the open-ended nature of the suspension. "It was not appropriate for Facebook to impose the indeterminate and standardless penalty of indefinite suspension," the Oversight Board stated. "We are today announcing new enforcement protocols to be applied in exceptional cases such as this, and we are confirming the time-bound penalty consistent with those protocols which we are applying to Mr. Trump's accounts," Facebook said of the decision.

The former leader of the free world remains suspended for two years, effective from the date of the initial suspension on Jan. 7 of this year. At the end of the period, Facebook will decide whether the "risk to public safety has receded."

Meanwhile, accounts run by Global Times, China Daily, and Xinhua News Agency are permitted to proliferate content on Facebook without threat of censorship. The publishers are even identified by Facebook as "China state-controlled media," because the accounts are "under the editorial control" of the state government.

China Daily lambasted American abolitionist Frederick Douglass who said on July 4, 1852: "For revolting barbarity and shameless hypocrisy, America reigns without a rival." One-and-a-half centuries later, China Daily told the outlet's followers Friday, "please do not let that quote continue to apply."

"Every year on this day, there will be a wave of condemnation from abroad, but the vast majority of participants in the Tiananmen movement have not supported these condemnations long ago, and they have a new understanding of what happened," wrote the Global Times just yesterday on Facebook.

On the 32nd anniversary of the Tiananmen Square massacre, Global Times issued an editorial note stating that the publication is "laughing" at those "posturing 'commemorative' activities and political stunts orchestrated by outside forces."

Xinhua News Agency wrote Friday that "Washington's shameless human rights lies can fool no one." The outlet claimed on Facebook that American politicians have been escalating the "smear campaign against China's human rights records in recent days" and "gone almost crazy to smear and denigrate China." Xinhua News Agency argued that it is "because the United States is not only the world's biggest human rights violator, but also the top hypocrite on the human rights issue."

"From the pandemic tragedy to deep-rooted racial and gender inequality, Washington's disgraceful records in human rights have not only put millions of lives under threat, but also seriously disrupted the global drive to protect and improve people's wellbeing," Xinhua News Agency penned online.

However, there's been strong speculation that the novel coronavirus was leaked from the Wuhan Institute of Virology. The hypothesis regarding COVID-19's origins has gained credence in recent weeks by those on the political left and right.

"The desperate outcry of 'I can't breathe' still reverberates across the country," wrote Xinhua News Agency, although former Minneapolis Police officer Derek Chauvin was found guilty on all counts in the death of George Floyd.

Xinhua News Agency is the propaganda organ and essential mouthpiece of the People's Republic of China. The publication is the largest media outlet in China, a ministry-level entity under the control of the China's State Council.

"We are public media for the public good. We don't pursue corporate interests, nor will we yield to the pressure of ideological stigmatization and political bias," Xinhua News Agency boasts in its Twitter biography.

The press agency was lambasted by American lawmakers last January after the Chinese arm paid the social media giant to promote posts that attacked pro-democracy demonstrators in Hong Kong. "Two months on, the escalating violence in Hong Kong has taken a heavy toll on the social order," an August 2019 tweet read. "Hong Kong residents have called for order to be restored."

"Whatever else you think of January 6th, if you can't see why allowing a brutal authoritarian government to whitewash not just its past human rights abuses but it's present sins (including genocide) is worse than anything Trump tweeted, I don't know what to tell you," commented conservative writer Drew Holden.

"Facebook's ruling is an insult to the record-setting 75M people, plus many others," Trump responded to the two-year ban, "who voted for us in the 2020 Rigged Presidential Election." The former commander-in-chief fired back that Facebook shouldn't get away with "censoring and silencing." Trump lambasted the "abuse" the country is enduring, promising to "win" the free speech fight.
