On Wednesday, former Twitter executives testified before the House Oversight and Accountability Committee. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez utilized her time to attack the prominent Twitter account Libs of TikTok, lying and accusing account owner Chaya Raichik of, among other things, spreading "false" information that Boston Children's Hospital was performing hysterectomies on children.
Former head of trust and safety, Yoel Roth, shared Ocasio-Cortez's sentiments, telling her that the decision to allow Libs of TikTok to remain on the platform was made "regrettably."
"Are you familiar with the account 'Libs of TikTok'?" Ocasio-Cortez asked Roth and his former colleague Anika Collier Navaroli, both of whom said they were.
She went on to claim that "from August 11 to August 16, that account posted false information about Boston Children's Hospital, claiming that they were providing hysterectomies to children."
"Are you aware that this lie was then circulated by other prominent far-right influencers?" Ocasio-Cortez asked Roth, before suggesting that Libs of TikTok's actions had "culminated in real life harassment and ultimately a bomb threat to the Boston Children's Hospital."
"This account is still on the platform today?" she snapped.
"Regrettably, yes it is," Roth replied.
Ocasio-Cortez then launched into a tirade against Libs of TikTok, accusing the account of facilitating "the right-wing incitement of violence against trans Americans." She also suggested that Republicans were somehow "obsessed" with enacting harm against the LGBTQ community, immigrants, and women of color, seeming to forget that a growing number of party members fall into those groups.
Libs of TikTok promptly called out Ocasio-Cortez and Roth on Twitter.
"AOC isn't mad that children are being chemically and surgically castrated," Libs of TikTok wrote. "She's just mad you found out."
"Hey @AOC, I don't want to date you," she added, poking fun at the congresswoman's prior insinuations that those who challenged her were actually just attracted to her.
"The great irony here," the Babylon Bee's Seth Dillon said, "is that AOC is lying. Libs of TikTok has simply reported the facts about what these hospitals have said about their own services. It's all documented. But this is what they do — they use misinformation to smear you as being a source of it."
"Remember when AOC started the false narrative that detention centers for illegal immigrants were 'concentration camps'," the Daily Wire's Ryan Saavedra pointed out, "and then a man went and actually bombed an ICE facility in Tacoma, Washington, using her exact rhetoric?"
