Associated Press writes off poor treatment of Capitol riot prisoners as 'conspiracy theory' in 'fact check'

The so-called esteemed newswire service completely ignores the poor treatment of defendant Christopher Worrell, that even CNN highlighted.

The one-year anniversary of the Capitol riot is tomorrow, bringing renewed scrutiny to all aspects of the January 6 narrative. After more than 700 people were arrested, many of who are still in jail, journalists and congressmen began asking questions about the treatment of those prisoners.

Andy Ngo, editor-at-large for The Post Millennial, noted that despite claims of prisoner mistreatment, the Associated Press issued a "fact check" claiming that the prisoners held in connection with charges from Jan. 6 were not actually mistreated.

The AP's reasoning, Ngo noted,  to say that the prisoners were not being mistreated is that jailers provide the inmates with food.

CNN ran an article about the mistreatment of at least one prisoner, who had cancer and was released once unsafe conditions were found in the jail. "US Capitol rioter with cancer ordered released from jail after surprise inspection found unsafe conditions," CNN reported.

The Associated Press at first properly bolsters their analysis and the "fact-check" does have elements of fact. They report that rioters were actually violent, and actually supported Trump. However, this same fact checker outlet is light on their debunking about Capitol riot prisoners.

As a reminder, the AP reported that the treatment of Capitol riot prisoners is a conspiracy theory alongside other claims. This is jarring considering they say that the eyewitness testimony of people like Republican Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene is wrong.

They associate the claims of mistreatment with the secondary claim that these prisoners are "political prisoners." In doing so they negate the actual treatment of the prisoners held over charges associated with January 6.

"While it’s true some of the suspects have complained about their time in jail, it’s wrong to argue they’re being held as political prisoners. Authorities have said the suspects in custody are being given the same access to food and medical care as any other inmate," the AP writes.

That’s all the Associated Press has to say, alongside mentioning that the QAnon Shaman Jacob Chansley was given organic food at his behest.

One of the main topics of discussion Greene discussed on social media was the treatment of Capitol riot prisoners after her visit with Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz of the DC Correctional Facility last summer.

"They’re denied time with their attorneys. They are denied the ability to even see their families and have their families visit there. They are denied bail and being held there without bail. Many of these people have never been charged for a crime before. Some of them are veterans. And the treatment is unbelievable," Rep. Greene has previously said.

Elsewhere there’s the testimony of prisoners like Joe Biggs:

For as subject matter interpreted as serious by the liberal media, the treatment of the Capitol riot’s prisoners begins to pull back the curtain.
