At least one person is reportedly dead following a shooting in the main terminal at Vancouver International Airport.

Emergency services received a call at approximately 3 PM about an incident at the airport. Paramedics responded and according to officials, the situation has been "contained" and the airport is open and safe with flights still operating.
IHIT is deploying to YVR. A man was shot and killed this afternoon near the domestic departure terminal. Media availability later this evening in Richmond. Time/location TBA shortly.

So far no one has been reported to have been transported to area hospitals but one male victim was repotedly killed.

According to The Vancouver Sun, the alleged shooter and accomplices fled in a Honda Pilot, shooting at police as they drove away. A Honda Pilot was later located in Surrey’s Royal Heights neighbourhood on fire and is believed to be the suspects’ vehicle.

The shooting closed roadways including all five bridge crossings onto Sea Island and all lanes of Massey Tunnel, which have now been reopened. TransLink had suspended CanadaLine service in Richmond in response to the shooting, but is now reportedly back on schedule.

BC RCMP spokesperson Dawn Roberts told Global News, "We do not have anybody in custody. We have not had additional reports of additional shootings underway, which is what I would classify as an active situation."

Roberts also said that the possible connections to gang activity was being investigated as well as ties to a pattern of shootings in public areas in the region.
