"I didn't like what DeSantis said about Fauci," Newsom said, announcing his plans to donate $100,000 to Charlie Crist.

California Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom upped the ante in his ongoing attacks against Florida's Republican Governor Ron DeSantis, announcing on Thursday that he intends to donate $100,000 to DeSantis' Democrat opponent Charlie Crist.

Newsom said during an event in Los Angeles highlighting new housing for the city’s massive amount of homeless that he prefers Crist and doesn't support politicians who "demean people."

"Time to make Ron DeSantis a one-term governor," Newsom said, announcing that he pledged $100,000 "right now to Charlie Crist."

"You want to ask what my 'why' is in life? I don't like bullies.," Newsom said. "I didn't like what DeSantis said about Fauci, that you may disagree with him, but to call someone pejorative terms because they're short. Who the hell are these guys? What kind of people are they?"

Newsom then compared DeSantis' rhetoric to former President Donald Trump. "I know all of us had to, you know, sit there and suck it up and take Trump's demonization. But not everybody has to act like him. I got four kids. I don't want these guys being role models. Attacking LGBT community, attacking women. I mean, this guy is so extreme."

He added, "I'm standing up for this as a human being," he explained. "Got to use those dollars. I hope others of you send money to send a message that if that's the future of the damn Republican Party, this country is in real trouble."

"I know all of us had to sit there and suck it up and take Trump's demonization, but not everybody has to act like him," Newsom continued. "Literally, I remember growing up and folks would have their mouths washed out with soap if they talked like this. I've got four kids. I don't want these guys being models."

Earlier this summer, Newsom released a campaign ad attacking DeSantis and encouraging Floridians to move to California.

"Freedom, it’s under attack in your state," Newsom said of Florida, the freest state. "Republican leaders, they’re banning books, making it harder to vote, restricting speech in classrooms, even criminalizing women and doctors." Newsom's state had previously banned To Kill a Mockingbird.

The ad was mocked by many on the right due to the mass exodus from the Golden State, with many former residents settling in Florida. The migration was so extreme that it cost California a congressional seat while Florida gained one.
