The validity of critical race theory as a doctrine is brought into question given the fact that the Chinese government has used the topic for their propaganda fodder.
In this case they made something targeted at America's kids.
A September 2020 video from the China Global Television Network (CGTN) was rediscovered by Mythinformed, and shared widely.
The Chinese propaganda video opens up by saying racism is a generational thing, with parents being responsible with teaching their kids to not be racist.
The narrator urges parents to use "daily life and the news" as examples. The CGTN cartoon then uses George Floyd to imply Derek Chauvin killed him for being black.
The Chinese propaganda cartoon doesn't explain any details of the case, or the fact that Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison said there was no evidence to charge former Officer Derek Chauvin, who has been convicted in George Floyd's death, of a hate crime.
The video gives advice to parents, saying: "When kids link race with value judgments, don't get angry and shut them down. Instead, probe to find out where these ideas are coming from."
The cartoon mentions Disney characters as examples being brought up by the kid.
The video gives advice on what to say when a kid says: "I only like princesses who look like Ariel, and I don't like Moana’s brown hair and skin."
Late last year, Disney was thankful that China let them film the live action remake of Mulan near the country's Muslim concentration camps.
The cartoon then shows two boys playing, one white and one black boy. "You can’t be Spider-Man, you are black," the white kid says to the black kid. Then the boy frowns.
The video suggests that parents ask kids: "Honey, how would you like it if that boy said you couldn't be Spider-Man because you have blond hair? How would you feel?"
But the Chinese Communist Party didn't do their homework. If they did, they'd know about Miles Morales and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.
The video tells parents to: "Take a look at what your kids are watching and reading. Show them movies and TV shows about heroes from other cultures."
Disney's Black Panther is not on that list. Instead they list real-life political figures. CGTN mentions Malala Yousafzai, the 24-year-old female activist who is now a prominent critic of the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan. Her stake in the matter stems from the fact the Taliban in Pakistan shot her in the head, back in 2012.
Malala's crime in their eyes was her advocating that girls be allowed the right to an education. China recently accepted the new Taliban regime as legitimate. The CGTN cartoon names former South African President Nelson Mandela as another hero from another culture.
The video states: "Unfortunately most children's books and shows center around white characters. But some don’t if you make an effort to look for them."
The cartoon shows someone typing "anti-racist children's books" into a search bar. As seen earlier last month, twenty-five public school districts were found to be using such materials.
The video states: "Lead by example and add diversity to different parts of your life. Take part in activities likely to have a diverse group of people. Remember, being 'not racist' just keeps things the way they are now. By being 'anti-racist,' you can help lead our children to a brighter future."
What the propaganda is echoing near verbatim are the ideological beliefs espoused by Ibram X. Kendi. China uses the video to espouse divisive beliefs that people of different races getting along in a "colorblind" way is essentially racist. Instead, according to the "anti-racist" crowd that the CCP parrots, everyone needs to prioritize their skin color in their personal identity.
CGTN is funded by the Chinese government. The catalog of their YouTube videos shows that their focus is on stories that they consider most beneficial to China's image at the moment.
In December 2020 CGTN uploaded a clip aimed at a young adult demographic talking about "the origin of racism" in the US using a similar graphic style.
