The implications of a new mask mandate were spoken about by some unusual suspects when it comes to responding to COVID initiatives from the Biden White House. Today, at the very least, the reasoning behind the administration’s decision-making is being openly questioned.
This comes as the CDC yesterday made a massive reversal in their guidelines by telling vaccinated people to "mask up" again. It prompted a wave of confusion from the general public as they were led to believe getting vaccinated would free themselves from having to do this.
Most noticeable in today’s discourse was CNN’s Oliver Darcy.
In a rare move from someone at that outlet they actually pushed back against the Biden administration for their confusing messaging.
In a recent newsletter Darcy wrote:
"Policies like this should be challenged and tested. Gov't officials should face reasonable questions about the guidance they are issuing. An easy one: Why isn't the CDC basing its recommendations on hospitalization rates versus case counts? Another: How did the CDC determine that 50 new cases per 100,000 amounts to 'substantial' transmission? This is a moment during which media outlets can prove they aren't alarmists and are willing to challenge health officials..."
On Twitter the CNN senior media reporter echoed similar sentiments expressed by other corporate media outlets.
One of the moments highlighted by CNN's Brian Stelter, Darcy, and others was a tweet by New York art dealer Eli Klein. He directly rebutted any notion of a net benefit to bringing back masks again.
"A mask mandate is a slowdown for all indoor entertainment venues, stadiums, gyms, theaters, concert halls, clubs, malls, stores, OFFICES, etc.. People don’t want to do these things if they have to cover their face. Wearing a mask removes joy, normality & comfort from activities."
He earlier expressed concerns about "indefinite" COVID restrictions in "Blue America."
New York City today announced a $100 vaccination incentive in a renewed push.
"We’ve got to shake people at this point and say, ‘Come on now.’ We tried voluntary. We could not have been more kind and compassionate. Free testing, everywhere you turn, incentives, friendly, warm embrace. The voluntary phase is over," Mayor de Blasio said on MSNBC.
In response to the recent encroachment of "Delta variant" COVID, the Pfizer vaccine company said a third dose of their product is sufficient in protecting against this newest threat. Seemingly in line with the White House, who in recent days labeled it a "pandemic of the unvaccinated."
In a matter of hours however, yesterday, Vice President Kamala Harris demanded media reporters at the White House to fall in line and mask up again.
Former President Trump commented on the situation, saying these latest moves by the CDC will be a detriment to our nation’s children.
The agenda of the Biden administration this month seemingly was COVID vaccination driven. This comes as private companies like Google (and Facebook) are rolling out mandates for their employees — saying they’ll need to get jabbed if they want to return to in-person work.
