Gilman Playground is located in the Ballard neighborhood of Seattle which has been terrorized from the exponentially growing population living on the streets of Seattle.
Over 220 people living on the streets of Seattle have died since last winter, making it one of the deadliest years on record.
Meanwhile, citizen volunteers like We Heart Seattle, who have stepped up to solve the problem where the city has failed have been told by elected officials "Stop helping homeless people. Stop picking up garbage in our parks," because it was "disruptive."
One of the deadliest encampments in Seattle is located at Ballard Commons. Children have not been able to use the skateboarding park, spray park or playground because of the deadly encampment. Neighbors have filmed violence, drug deals and even bodies being taken out by medics.
PLAN FOR BALLARD COMMONS RESTORATION: Seattle Parks and Recreation says expect fencing to be around the park for some time. @KOMOhaider with a preview of what's in store for Ballard Commons Park, 11pm @komonews pic.twitter.com/m668qhA22k

That encampment has now been scheduled to be cleared on Tuesday December 7. However, many are not optimistic that the encampment will be gone permanently. The encampment was cleared in April of 2020 following a massive hepatitis outbreak but returned a few weeks later. Even with the most recent encampment clearing notices, nothing has been done to address campers living in RV’s nearby or nearby encampments.
FINALLY HAPPENING: After all the rumors, homeless encampment at Ballard Commons Park being cleared out next Tues Dec 7. Notice left on every remaining tent. The question is, what will @SDOTtraffic and city do about RV's parked in same spot for months? #Seattle #Homeless @komonews pic.twitter.com/r7ciDl2hUp

Just this week, a floating homeless encampment was covered by local media. According to the Seattle Harbor Patrol, the pilings the boats are tied to are the responsibility of the Department of Natural Resources who will not deal with the problem even though they have been aware of it for weeks and the boats are leaking oil into Washington waterways.

3 boats have been tied up to a piling for months next to the Ballard bridge.
The occupants also have RVs nearby, are admitted drug users and steal from locals. They drive a Crown Vic that says "SECURITY” on the doors pic.twitter.com/bX806XTC8U
The occupants of the boat are addicts who neighbors allege have repeatedly broken into nearby homes and businesses. The husband of the couple even drives a former police cruiser with the word "security" on the side. The pair’s former residence a RV, burned to the ground. Yet even while living on the boat, they have another RV nearby for other activities which according to neighbors includes drug use, dealing and fencing of stolen goods.
Crime in Seattle has gotten so bad that local businesses worry about losing their insurance coverage and having to close altogether. Businesses and residents have resorted to private security and arming themselves with firearms for additional protection.
