On Saturday, Twitter users noticed an article was created on Wikipedia, an online encyclopedia that can be freely edited by users, which categorized Twitter CEO Elon Musk's suspension of journalists who had doxxed his real-time location as the "Thursday Night Massacre."
Musk wrote, "A two day suspension of maybe 7 accounts for doxxing got an actual Wikipedia page!? Wikipedia is controlled by the MSM journalists. Can't trust that site anymore."
Political commentator and author Michael Malice tweeted, "To recap: @elonmusk put a handful of journalists in time out, and then all their friends started throwing tantrums about it" and a user responded by posting a screenshot of the Wikipedia article titled, "Thursday Night Massacre."
The article, which has now been changed to read, "December 15, 2022 Twitter suspensions," opened with "The 'Thursday Night Massacre' is a term that refers to the December 15, 2022, account suspension of several high-profile journalists from the Twitter platform. At least nine journalists who covered the social media company and its owner, Elon Musk, were all suspended without warning."
The phrase "Thursday Night Massacre" was quietly removed after backlash on Twitter.
Noam Blum tweeted, "There is a 3,000 word Wikipedia page titled "Thursday Night Massacre" because a bunch of people got suspended from Twitter for 18 hours," to which Musk replied, "Wikipedia is overly controlled by mainstream media @jimmy_wales."
Jimmy Wales is the founder of Wikipedia.
Raheem J. Kassam tweeted, "THURSDAY NIGHT MASSACRE LMAO the f*cking left media are so cringe this ain't a 90s World Wrestling Federation spécial bro."
"Journalists think they're experiencing their very own Kristallnacht," tweeted Ian Miles Cheong.
Former Donald Trump campaign legal advisor Jenna Ellis noted, "It shows that even “open-source” group think isn’t necessarily trustworthy or fact based."
In July, Wikipedia was one of the sites that changed the definition of recession on their website to fit the Biden administration's new language. The information-on-demand site then locked their page, preventing individuals from updating the website which is a tool that Wikipedia has long provided.
Liberal leaning institutions, such as the Museum of Modern Art, often host group edit sessions such as "Art+Feminism Wikipedia Edit-a-thon" events where activists will gather and deliberately change "subjects related to gender, art, and feminism" to reflect their ideology.Powered by StructureCMS™ Comments
