Elon Musk has confirmed that he has a history of voting entirely Democrat until this year, but that his historical party affiliation has been Independent.

"To be clear, my historical party affiliation has been Independent, with an actual voting history of entirely Democrat until this year", Musk confirmed on Monday afternoon

The Tesla boss and new Twitter CEO also sent out a tweet on Monday morning endorsing the GOP and recommending that Americans vote for Republican candidates in the upcoming midtern elections. He had already stated several months ago that he would be voting Republican, and the latest election-week activity suggests a very real desire to send a red wave across the country.

"I have voted overwhelmingly for Democrats, historically. Like I'm not sure, I might never have voted for a Republican, just to be clear," Musk said in May.

Musk is a registered independent voter and has said in the past that he is neither Republican nor Democrat.

Musk is not alone as an independent voting red; a New York Times/Sienna College poll a few weeks ago found that the majority of independent voters intend to vote for the GOP this year.

In a response to his own tweet posted shorty afterwards, he also stated that he's "open to the idea of voting Democrat in the future."

Republican candidates in key states are polling very closely to their Democratic counterparts. Even Republicans in the blue states are coming within striking distance of their Democrat opponents. The New York race between Republican Lee Zeldin and Incumbent Democrat Kathy Holuch is already very close and could very well swing red.
