A London entertainment company that puts on events for parents and babies featuring scantily clad drag performers dancing provocatively has become the focus of intense international outrage.
The social media storm began when broadcaster Dominique Samuels shared video footage of a Caba Baba Rave event, in which adult men wearing little more than thongs can be seen cavorting and gyrating in front of an audience made up of adults and infant children.
One of the men is wearing tight black shorts and thigh-high stiletto boots while he twirls on aerial ropes. Another wearing just a thong and high heels perform an impressive balancing act upside down on a chair, leaving little to the imagination.
Samuels, who began her YouTube video by stating that she has no issue with the LGBT community, nor with drag when it is performed for adults, called the spectacle “absolutely abhorrent.”
“CABABABARAVE is an exciting new event for parents and their babies!” read the now-unavailable company website. A little slice of afternoon delight that provides show-stopping cabaret interspersed with captivating baby sensory moments.. ending in a RAVE.”
The company was started by “two performers turned mums,” Lizzie and Gemma, “who were constantly looking to be entertained whilst holding a baby in one hand and a pint in the other.. so CABABABARAVE was born.”
“We wanted to create the type of event we ourselves as Mums would want to go to. There’s only so many times you can listen to the f**king Wheels on the Bus. We wanted to give parents the experience of a ‘big London night out’.. cabaret, drinks and dancing.. but one you can bring your baby to and still be home for bedtime,” they explain.
The events are aimed at parents and babies under 2.
An upcoming sold-out event at The Vaults in London is scheduled for March 11. Past events held there had notably sexual themes such as “Naked Chats,” during which panelists posed “naked whilst in they’re in conversation about nakedness,” and a drag puppet show called “The Sodomite,” reports Reduxx.
All the company’s social media accounts are now set to private after the video clips were a storm of outrage.
At the company launch in Jan 2022, drag queen Miss Lucinda B. Hind performed the inaugural cabaret act. A photograph of the drag performer was uploaded to the Caba Baba Rave Instagram page with the caption: “This bendy b*tch will be sure to wow you with her fabulous acts.”
Mister Molly was the DJ for the launch event advertised as a “cabaret and sensory rave for babies.” Mister Molly is a “drag clown.” Both Lucinda B. Hind and Mister Molly are affiliated with the “House of Naked,” which boasts on its Instagram that it is a “hedonistic utopia…that fuses drag icons, cabaret greats and circus legends into one queer spellbinding show.”
One photograph on Caba Baba Rave’s now-private Instagram shows a drag queen doing the splits with a crowd of mother-and-baby onlookers.
Another post shows a screenshot of a message criticizing the inappropriate form of baby entertainment. “Wearing latex and drinking pints is not suitable for a baby event. Shameful,” reads the message.
“YEY SHAME. Best review ever,” is the accompanying caption.
“The parents that take their children to events like this should lose custody of their children, and the companies and people that put them on should be locked up. Absolutely revolting,” tweeted Gays Against Groomers.
“Remember: bare-buttocked drag queens - in g-strings & PVC boots - performing to babies & toddlers is “just like the panto.” To object to this makes you a Nazi, Far Right & a racist. All clear?,” tweeted journalist Martin Daubney.
