The San Francisco Gay Men's Chorus faced a wave of backlash in July 2021 when the group posted a music video singing about how they'll "convert your children."
SFGMC claimed the song was based on ironic humor focused on fears surrounding children and the left's "gay agenda," following sharp criticism from concerned parents and community members who felt the message was executed in poor taste.
"You think that we'll corrupt your kids if our agenda goes unchecked," one of the chorus men sang of indoctrinating children. "Funny, just this once, you're correct."
The song, titled "A Message From the Gay Community," mocked parents fearing the mainstream push of the LGBTQ agenda in today's media and K-12 classrooms.
The lyrics played on "conversion" phrasing, emphasizing, "We'll convert your children. Happens bit by bit. Quietly and subtly. And you will barely notice it."
But the LGBTQ group's purported objective is to "make them tolerant and fair," "teach them not to hate," and have kids care about "fairness and justice for others."
The choir's most controversial line drew vitriol from critics who pointed to the eyebrow-raising lyrics as proof of pedophiles infiltrating the LGBTQ movement.
"We're coming for them. We're coming for your children. We're coming for them. We're coming for them. We're coming for your children," the gay men sang.
In a press release responding to the poor reception, SFGMC blamed "far-right conservative media" for taking "lyrics out of context to support a narrative that suits their intolerant and hateful needs," adding they've faced "threats of harm."
"After decades of children being indoctrinated and taught intolerance for anyone who is ‘other,’ from using the Bible as a weapon to reparative therapy, it's our turn. We have dedicated ourselves to being role models, teaching, spreading the message of love, tolerance and celebration through our music," SFGMC wrote.
SFGMC's musical stunt, while defended as "tongue-in-cheek humor" by its members, has re-entered the national spotlight following LGBTQ activists feuding with Florida's Republican leadership over the state's anti-grooming law.
Florida's Parental Rights in Education law bans age-inappropriate classroom instruction on gender identity and sexual orientation for kindergarten through third-grade.
Walt Disney Co., one of Florida's largest employers, has condemned the anti-grooming legislation amid a pedophile employment scandal facing the company.
As recent as mid-March, multiple Disney employees were busted in a child trafficking sting just days after the corporation opposed the Florida's law meant to protect the state's young school-aged children from leftist grooming tactics.
Disney's pedo problem has stretched back years. There's been a revolving door of child predators on the children's entertainment giant's payroll since at least 2006, as discussed by Anderson Cooper.
Last year, a lifeguard at Animal Kingdom Lodge was busted in a child predator sting wearing his Disney work clothes, while Hollywood Studios custodians dating each other were caught during Operation Child Protector wanting to have a threesome with a 13-year-old girl. The couple's "fantasy is to play stepdad, stepdaughter, stepmother, teacher, student, uh, maybe even shoplifter where we even do a strip show," according to communications with undercover authorities.
