Gad Saad's The Parasitic Mind teaches you how to think critically

Dr. Gad Saad has published his new book, The Parasitic Mind: How Infectious Ideas Are Killing Common Sense, and it is already a best seller on Amazon. The Parasitic Mind is a fascinating critical analysis of "idea pathogens," such as political correctness, radicalism, and identity politics.

In the 200 page book, Dr. Saad addresses these pathological ideas in such a manner that is completely unique and highly necessary to public discussion. Much has been said of political correctness and cancel culture, but contrary to other academics, Dr. Saad approaches these topics from a medical standpoint. As a Evolutionary Psychologist, Dr. Saad is not constrained to the supposition that all human behaviour is socially constructed. In fact, he has for many years taught publicly how our innate evolutionary human attributes are ever-present in our daily life.

This is why the title itself is a sort of medical diagnosis of these "idea pathogens," which are seemingly infecting society in a similar manner to which a parasite invades and takes control of an organisms brain. To this end, Dr. Saad brings something completely new to the discussion on the current culture war.

The eight chapters dive into a number of topics. From campus lunacy to the non-negotiable elements of a free society. Chapter six stood out to me. It is titled, "Departures from Reason: Ostrich Parasitic Syndrome," and it examines a pathogenic syndrome of sorts. Ostrich Parasitic Syndrome or OPS, is a syndrome which causes the subject to reject obvious realities for self assuring illusions. Similarly to the trope of the Ostrich sticking its head in the sand, OPS is self inflicted. The subject is in this case, completely ideologically possessed and unable to look at things objectively.

Excluding the actual analysis of what is happening in the culture, Dr. Saad articulates what is at stake: Science, freedom and the core tenets that make up the Western World. The idea that there is such a thing as truth, and that our feelings or offences cannot supersede this truth.

This is what Dr. Saad seeks to protect and in The Parasitic Mind, he does just that. Dr. Saad does not sell a political tribal colour. He does not profess to oppose one ideology for the mere exchange of another. He instead, teaches critical thinking. A clear and concise understanding of these phenomenon will equip you with the tools to combat ideological pathogens that seek to supplant reason.

In this sense, The Parasitic Mind does not tell you what to think, but how to think. Thus, in an age filled with misinformation and subjectivity, Dr. Saad has written something that is true and that everyone can and should read.
