OH MY: George Takei slammed for petty, jealous insult of William Shatner after historic space flight

Star Trek legend William Shatner, 90, made history when he became the oldest person to fly to space on Wednesday when he took flight aboard Jeff Bezos' Blue Origin.

Visibly moved after returning to Earth from the 10 minute 17 second suborbital journey, he said "I hope I never recover from this. I hope that I can maintain what I feel now. I don't want to lose it."

But George Takei, who is notorious for trolling and feuding with his former co-star for decades, was dismissive of Wednesday's voyage. "He’s boldly going where other people have gone before," Takei told Page Six.

He also called Shatner a "guinea pig" and said he's "not the fittest specimen."

“He’s a guinea pig, 90 years old and it’s important to find out what happens,” Takei said, adding "So 90 years old is going to show a great deal more on the wear and tear on the human body, so he’ll be a good specimen to study. Although he’s not the fittest specimen of 90 years old, so he’ll be a specimen that’s unfit!”

Many were quick to blast Takei for his petty comments.

Texas Senator Ted Cruz tweeted "Captain Kirk > bitter Mr. Sulu. Really inspiring to see Shatner go to space."

Some suggested that Takei is likely jealous that Shatner got to visit "the final frontier."

The Daily Wire's Ashe Short said "Say you're jealous without saying you're jealous."

Mary Katharine Ham said "Okay, sir. I hope you got a sweet Priceline deal on those sour grapes."

Others, like journalist Ramesh Ponnuru, chided Takei for his tired cracks against Shatner, saying "Boringly going where Takei has been a million times before."

Some were a little bit more blunt about their feelings towards Takei. Radio talk show host Michael Berry simply said "George Takei sucks."

Regarding the decades-old feud, Shatner has previously said "There must be something else inside George that is festering, and it makes him unhappy that he takes it out on me… Why would he go out of his way to denigrate me? It’s sad, I feel nothing but pity for him."
