"Was there any public input whatsoever before a satanic golden medusa demon with tentacle arms was installed atop a downtown courthouse?" New York Councilwoman Vickie Paladino said.

Last week a new golden-colored, curled-horned statue titled "NOW" that some on Twitter are calling "Satanic" and "demonic" was unveiled atop a state courthouse located in the Flatiron district of New York City standing next to stone statues of Moses, Confucius, and Zoroaster.

The New York Times reports that the statue's maker, 53-year-old Pakistani American Shahzia Sikander, said, "She is a fierce woman and a form of resistance in a space that has historically been dominated by patriarchal representation."

The Times article, titled, "Move Over Moses and Zoroaster: Manhattan Has a New Female Lawgiver," describes the statue as "a shimmering, golden eight-foot female sculpture, emerging from a pink lotus flower and wearing Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s signature lace collar."

On Twitter, New York Councilwoman Vickie Paladino described the statue a little differently and wrote, "Was there any public input whatsoever before a satanic golden medusa demon with tentacle arms was installed atop a downtown courthouse? Who thinks this is okay? And how do we go about removing it?"

Several commentators on the social media site also noticed the Satanic imagery.

"Bizarre resemblance to Satanic imagery," wrote Daily Signal Senior Report Mary Margaret Olohan.

According to Fox News, Sikander said the work was part of an "urgent and necessary cultural reckoning underway as New York reconsiders traditional representations of power in public spaces and recasts civic structures to better reflect 21st-century social mores."

"New York has put an androgynous baphomet with tentacles digging into its own torso on top of the courthouse in order to 'better reflect 21st century social mores.' Sounds about right," another wrote.

Jack Posobiec tweeted, "A conquering regime always erects its idols in place of the prior regime's gods."

Many commented simply on its aesthetics.

"It looks like a resident evil boss in mid transformation," wrote on Twitter user.

"The next Republican mayor of New York should not only remove but publicly destroy this monstrosity," wrote Michael Knowles.

According to the Times, the statue's maker said the "urgency" for the statue came after the overturn of Roe v. Wade in June but the US Supreme Court.
