Harmeet Dhillon SLAMS Ronna McDaniel over extravagant RNC leadership retreat

"At a time of economic catastrophe in our country, when we are losing elections, I would have made a different choice if I were the chair," Dhillon said.

On Wednesday, members of the Republican National Committee descended upon the ritzy Waldorf Astoria Monarch Beach near Los Angeles where they will remain until a new chair is selected on Friday.

Challenger Harmeet Dhillon slammed current chairwoman Ronna McDaniel over the unnecessary extravagance of the retreat, suggesting it shows just how out of touch with Republican voters the incumbent really is.

"At a time of economic catastrophe in our country, when we are losing elections, I would have made a different choice if I were the chair," Dhillon told the Daily Mail, suggesting that she "would have chosen a venue that is easy to get to and also on a par with what our voters and activists would like to see us doing."

She lamented the fact that members were forced to fly into LAX and drop $100 to take a taxi two hours south to the hotel, on top of the exorbitant cost of staying there.

A room at the Waldorf Astoria, which sits right at the beach and boasts three swimming pools and a golf course, typically sits at around $900 per night, however, organizers said they were able to get a discounted rate. Nonetheless, Dhillon claimed it was "emblematic of some of the spending choices" of the RNC.

In her campaign for chair, Dhillon has stressed the importance of appearing more in touch with the realities of life for everyday Americans, and vowed not to be so wasteful of donor money, something she has accused McDaniel of being complicit in.

"Everything is not fine," Dhillon told Fox News' Tucker Carlson on Tuesday night, "and we have a responsibility as a party to fix what is wrong so that we can win elections."

While McDaniel is projected to win a fourth term, Dhillon has garnered an impressive amount of grassroots support, as well as the backing of influential donors such as HCSS founder and former CEO Mike Rydin, who suggested she had the "legal experience and expertise to beat the Democrats at their own games."
