It's election season and Liberals can't stop talking about abortion

Liberals like MP Maryam Monsef hit the big red panic button this week and created a Twitter thread laying out her conspiracy theory that Erin O'Toole secretly wants to control women's wombs.

Besides the actual writ drop, there are many telltale signs that it is election season in Canada. One of the most prominent indications of an election—and perhaps even a close election—is the Liberals continuously making abortion an issue.

In Canada, abortion is a settled topic. The country has the most laissez-faire abortion laws in the world, allowing abortion to occur at any stage of pregnancy. It has been this way since 1988 and in addition to being the most progressive country for abortion, there is a broad political consensus around the issue.

Every single major federal party leader is pro-choice. This includes Conservative Party leader Erin O'Toole, who will soon have to resort to yelling his stance from every rooftop in Canada. This is because Liberal MPs and partisans are currently in election mode and concerned around the horrifying possibility that it's not as much of a coronation as initially thought.

This is why Liberals like MP Maryam Monsef hit the big red panic button this week and created a Twitter thread laying out her conspiracy theory that Erin O'Toole secretly wants to control women's wombs. The Minister for Women and Gender Equality and Rural Economic Development said, "Tonight in Quebec, Erin O'Toole pretended to be pro-choice. He did the same thing in his platform. But in reality, he'll let his team bring forward legislation to restrict abortion access. That's the same position as Andrew Scheer."

Monsef is not alone in her fearmongering. Liberal MP Carolyn Bennett also took to Twitter to warn women about those pesky Conservatives. Similarly to Monsef, her issue is not only imaginary but hypocritical. In response to her Tweet, the CPC HQ Twitter page called her out.

The crown Prince of Canada himself has come out and injected abortion into as many discussions as possible. This is all despite the fact that the Supreme Court entirely settled the issue in 1988.

It is worth mentioning that Canada does have a socially conservative population, vocal around the issue of abortion. Regardless of whether their position is right or wrong, the country's zeitgeist has seemingly closed the chapter on abortion.

Inspired by Warren Kinsella, I've decided to start a drinking game based on how many times the Liberals bring up abortion. We are in the first week of the campaign and I am currently in need of a new liver.
