Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer posted an image of Stacey Abrams on a prayer candle. These candles typically have saints on them, not American politicians, as politicians are not worthy of worship.
In the image on the candle, Abrams wears pastoral robes and holds a bible. For many on Twitter, this was an intensely cringeworthy image.
Abrams is a failed Georgia gubernatorial candidate who has said that she lost that race due to "voter suppression." There was no proof found of that claim.
Abrams lost the 2018 Georgia gubernatorial election to Brian Kemp by a margin of 55,000 votes. While acknowledging that she could not surpass Kemp's lead Abrams refused to concede the election.
In the wake of that loss, she took up the cause of flipping Georgia blue, and with the ascension of Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff to the US Senate, she has accomplished that mission.
She was lauded by supporters around the country. Abrams was called a "superhero" by actor Mark Ruffalo.
Abrams was compared to World War II icon Rosie the Riveter.
Others called her a "rockstar."
While others believed that Jan. 5 should be renamed Stacey Abrams Day.
Other said she "saved America" for her efforts to elect Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock through whatever means necessary.
Other called her a "goddess."
Others joked that Abrams is now considered by Democrats to be the "founder of the country," undoubtedly as a send-up of the 1619 Project's restatement of America's founding date from 1776 to 1619.
Still others consider her the governor of Georgia despite her loss.
Abrams efforts in Georgia were well-documented, although concerns were noted about her methods. She brought in Hollywood celebrities to encourage Georgians to vote for the Democratic ticket.
Abrams claimed that Republicans were incapable of winning without suppression, yet Project Veritas exposed a scheme to get the homeless into voting booths by using one address to register a large bulk of voters who did not live there. Abrams sister refused to recuse herself from a case involving voting in the state, where she ruled in favour of the Democratic party's position.
