Veteran Conservative MP Pierre Poilievre said on Tuesday that he had no plans of being Conservative Party leader.
According to Globe & Mail reporter Ian Bailey, Poilievre said that he also supports current leader Erin O'Toole, who faces a vote to determine the future of his leadership.
The Conservative caucus on Tuesday voted to give itself the power to remove O'Toole at any point.
Questions arose surrounding O'Toole's ability to lead after a disappointing night at the polls for the Conservatives, who—while managing to keep the Liberals to a minority—did not earn enough of the public's vote in key ridings to gain seats in the house.
Fans of Poilievre considered the Carleton MP a potential candidate for the leadership, as it was previously reported by CTV News that the Alberta-born native would seek a leadership position.
Poilievre would announce just weeks later that he would not be seeking the party's leadership, citing his desire to spend time with his wife and the couple's new daughter.
Following the caucus meeting on Tuesday, O'Toole said that he took full accountability for the party's shortcomings in the election, and added that he was "resolutely committed" to "reviewing every element" of the CPC campaign.
